There are two kinds of searches your buyers make. Early ones, like "what is commercial refrigeration", and buying ones, like "commercial refrigeration installer near me". The first kind has ten times the volume. The second kind pays your invoices.
Volume is a vanity metric in disguise
A lot of SEO work is judged on total traffic, so it drifts toward the high-volume, low-intent searches. Rankings go up, the traffic chart goes up, and enquiries stay flat — because the people arriving were never looking to hire anyone.
How to find the searches that pay
Start from your highest-margin services and work backwards. What would someone type the week they're ready to buy that service? Those phrases usually include a place, a problem, or the word that signals intent: cost, quote, installer, replacement, near me.
Then give each of those searches a page that deserves to rank: one that answers the question, shows evidence you've done this work before, and makes the next step obvious.
You'll rank for fewer phrases this way. The traffic chart will look less impressive. But the enquiries will come from people who were already looking for exactly what you sell — which is the only chart that matters.
